Sugaring

An ancient, all-natural method of hair removal using a paste of sugar, lemon juice and water. It's applied at body temperature and doesn't stick to live skin, so it won't burn or lift skin like wax. Hair comes out in the direction of growth, so you get little to no ingrown hair. Great for sensitive skin.

Before your appointment

  • Gently exfoliate the area 48 hours before your appointment.
  • Don't shave for 10–14 days beforehand. Hair needs to be at least ¼ inch long.
  • Arrive showered, with clean, dry skin and no makeup, powder, deodorant, oils or lotion on the area.
  • Skip sunbathing and tanning beds for 48 hours before.
  • For chest or back sugaring, bring a clean, dark-colored shirt to change into.

Aftercare

  • Wear loose clothing over the treated area.
  • Avoid heavy sweating for at least 8 hours, and hot tubs and pools for 2 days, while follicles are open.
  • Skip scented soaps, scented moisturizers and other irritants for 24 hours.
  • Avoid sexual activity for 24 hours after a bikini or Brazilian service to reduce the risk of follicle infection.
  • No sunbathing or tanning beds for 48 hours.
  • After 48 hours, exfoliate and moisturize every 2–3 days to prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Clean makeup brushes before using them on freshly sugared skin.
  • If skin is sensitive, apply a cold compress for about 20 minutes, 2–3 times.
  • Don't shave between visits, and book your next appointment for 3–4 weeks out.

Sugaring questions

How long should my hair be?

Three to four weeks of growth is ideal; two to three weeks usually works depending on how fast your hair grows. If it's very long, trim it before your visit to make the service more comfortable.

How often should I come in?

Every three to four weeks, depending on the area. Regular visits remove hair from the root and discourage regrowth. Book your first three sessions fairly close together for the best results.

Can I be sugared during my period?

That's up to you. Skin tends to be more sensitive then, so you may prefer to reschedule, but if you're comfortable it's fine. Please wear a tampon or cup.

Is sugaring permanent?

There's no guarantee, but with regular sugaring many clients see hair growth slow significantly, and in many cases it stops.

Can I be sugared while using Accutane or Retin-A?

It isn't recommended. Please check with your physician first; a doctor's note is recommended.

How long do results last?

It varies. Hair grows in three cycles. Your first visit catches most of them, and after two or three regular visits the cycles line up, so you can go longer between appointments.

Will hair grow back darker or coarser?

No. With sugaring, hair grows back finer, and many clients notice less growth over time. Shaving or depilatory creams between visits interrupts that progress.

How is sugaring different from waxing?

The paste is applied at body temperature and doesn't stick to live skin, so it won't burn or lift skin. Hair is removed in the direction of growth, which means fewer ingrown hairs. It also exfoliates, works on shorter hair, never double-dips, and rinses off with water.

Is it safe for sensitive skin?

Yes. The paste is just sugar, lemon juice and water. It's warm, never hot, naturally resists bacteria, and is the gentle, organic alternative to waxing.

Book your sugaring session. Plan for every 3–4 weeks for the best results.
